“Anything But Mundane” a Community Poetry Reading At Freeland Hall

March 20 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Opening Night of “Anything But Mundane” is happening Thursday, March 20th at Freeland Hall! This isn’t just a poetry reading—it’s an experience. A speakeasy-style series that will change locations each month, bringing words to unexpected places all across Whidbey Island. This is for poets, lovers of words, and for those who just want to step outside the ordinary.

“Anything but Mundane”- a quote Marc Juneau “coined” and I (Holly Ann Carroll, Poetry Reading co-conspirator) feel is an extremely appropriate descriptor for what him and I dream for, for this new community of poets we are hoping to create.

The Island may be “small,” but as a north ender, I can say that life has been throwing so much at me and I’ve fell into becoming quite the hermit. I am a stay at home mother of two, who has had a lot of medical things going on between myself and my two medically complex children.

Picture this: a “speak easy” style vibe, where our community can have different spots for us to do our readings at. Instead of a scheduled spot every scheduled date and time, we allow this to be our own movement in which we can “bounce around” and really EXPERIENCE this with each other, instead of the mundane, wash, rinse, repeat routine that may feel less impactful, although I know everything everyone will bring to the table would be nothing of the sort.

For myself, I am a north ender, and he is on the south end. How beautiful would it be for us all to be able to meet and experience the different areas? Spring and summer will be able to bring about a whole new level of places for us to go and be outside and connect that way, as well!
